If you need a practical activity with an Earth Day theme, I’ve got you covered!  I was looking for a way for my students to stay on track with their learning objectives while still celebrating Earth Day!

These Earth Day tracing worksheets are a fun, educational, and versatile resource designed for PreK through 1st grade. This resource is not only good for pre-writing, it is also great for hand-eye coordination, creativity, and teaching about living more eco conscious.

The trace and color format encourages pencil control while still introducing your students about the care of our planet.

Here are some ways you can use Earth Day tracing worksheets in your classroom:

How To Use These Earth Day Worksheets

Morning Work or Centers

These printable activities are great for morning work! They help you start the day calmly and focused and can also be used as independent work for literacy or writing centers.

Integrated Earth Day Lessons

Pair the pages with a mini-lesson on Earth Day.

Before the activity: Read I Can Save The Earth

Ask students: What do you think this book might be about? What do you already know about saving the earth?

During the activity:  Facilitate discussion by encouraging students to share one thing they can do to help the planet as they work on their coloring pages.

Ask students: Why do you think Max (the monster) makes so much trash? What happens when Max throws his trash everywhere? How does Max feel when he starts helping the earth?

After the activity: Have a discussion to wrap up the lesson by going over the Earth Day vocabulary words from the worksheets.

Ask students: What are some ways we can save the earth, just like Max? Why is it important to take care of our planet? What can we do in our classroom to be like Max and save the earth?

Art & Display Project

Turn the coloring pages into printable crafts by creating a class mural or bulletin board!

Students will feel proud seeing their work displayed while showcasing what Earth Day means to them.

Writing Extensions

A perfect addition to this fun activity is to make it a writing lesson! For K-1 students, add a writing prompt to the activity to improve the learning experience.

After tracing and coloring, ask students to answer the following:

  • “My favorite thing about the Earth is…”
  • “I will help the Earth by…”

I hope you enjoyed this post about some ways you can use Earth Day tracing worksheets in your classroom!
