Are you looking for 5 easy Earth Day Activities for 2 year olds? You’ve come to the right place! These activities will actually help keep your 2 year old busy! These activities are tried and true with my own 2 year old son who loves experimenting with new activities.
These Earth Day activities for 2 year olds offer different options for Earth Day fun depending on what may interest your child. Try one or try them all! Allow your child to run, jump, touch, hear and learn about why our Earth is in need of our protection.
This post is all about Earth Day Activities for 2 Year Olds.
1. Reduce and Recycle with Rocky: Paw Patrol Activity
Using characters your children are already familiar with is such a great way to introduce new lessons! If your children are anything like mine, this Earth Day activity with Paw Patrol will definitely capture their attention.
- First, watch this episode of Paw Patrol, Volume 14 – episode 6: Pups Save a Trash-Dinger.
2. Then, watch this episode Paw Patrol, Volume 5 – episode:17: Rocky Saves Himself
These episodes highlight Rocky, the recycling pup! Rocky is the green paw patrol pup who is responsible for using his rocky tools to fix and reuse items. This ties in perfectly as an Earth Day activity of reducing, reusing, and recycling! The episodes give you an opportunity to talk about trash in the ocean and littering.
3. Print out this FREE Rocky Printable. Have your toddler color this printable coloring sheet while watching the episodes. I also love using the Rocky action figure along with the lesson to deepen the connection to the lesson and the message.
2. Nature Scavenger Hunt
These nature scavenger hunts are great ways to entertain your 2-year-old, get them outside, and help them gain an appreciation for our Earth this Earth Day! Scavenger hunts can be incredibly easy and don’t require much work. Create a list of a few items you know you will encounter on your walk – or print out this FREE scavenger hunt printable here – and check off items as you find them.
Here are a few ideas for your scavenger hunt: tree, rock, water, leaves, flowers, squirrel, bird, bee, dog.
3. Repot a Plant
Time to get your hands dirty! This is one of our favorite Earth Day activities for 2-year-olds because toddlers can use their hands to touch, feel, and connect to nature. For this activity, visit a local plant nursery (or home depot) to find an inexpensive plant.
You can plant the plant outdoors or indoors, depending on space and availability. If you’re planting an indoor plant, here are some of my recommendations for plants that are difficult to kill.
4. Earth Day Sensory Bin
Create an Earth Day sensory bin! This is a fun and hands-on way to understand and appreciate the environment. Sensory bins can be as simple or as fancy as you’d like them to be! They’re all about allowing kids to use their imagination, get their hands messy, and engage their senses.
Make Your Base: Beans or Rice
- Add beans or rice to a plastic bag
- Mix in blue paint and mix another set with green paint
- Shake the bag until the items are fully covered
- Pour out to dry
Grab Your Tools:

- Make a boat out of aluminum foil

- Use cups and jars
Grab Some Toys/Learning Objects:
- We love this Recycling Truck
- Use Rocky Paw Patrol Toys
- Cut out items from this free printable
Pair this activity with the Garbage Truck episode of Blippy
5. Earth Run Game
Print and add these labels to different parts of the room. Put a second copy of the words/photos in a bin. Select a label from the bin and have your toddler run to where that word is placed in the room. Discuss each word/photo and how it connects to Earth Day! This game is not only fun, but it also helps get out some active toddler energy. If the weather is nice, this is also a great game to play outdoors and with multiple kids.
Bonus: Litter Cleanup
Grab some gloves and a bag and do a litter cleanup outside! You can clean around your home, your neighborhood, a park, or the beach. Cleaning up litter is a visible and tangible way to make a difference on Earth Day. Cleaning up litter on the ground reduces waste, increases property value, and decreases pollution.
I hope these 5 earth day activities for 2 year olds were helpful for you!
