Just be careful with little kids! Make sure the items are not small enough for smaller children to choke. Don’t want to make your own bins? Purchase some off Etsy! We’ve done this before and our kids still use them!
- Use toys/items that kids can play with at the party and take with them as their “thank you gift”. For example, we used these inflatable swords as decor that the kids could play with and then they got to take them home! The kids had so much fun with these swords and were thrilled they could keep them.
- Consider traditional party games like musical chairs, scavenger hunts, or pin the tail on the donkey. These games require minimal materials and can be played repeatedly without generating waste. You can also introduce nature-based activities, such as a mini-gardening session where kids plant seeds in biodegradable pots to take home.

Ideas include building bird feeders, decorating reusable tote bags, or making plants! These activities are a fun idea to keep create a memorable party.

- Have a scavenger hunt or a treasure hunt! These games are perfect for a low waste type of party. They are low cost and low waste! Create questions related to the theme of your birthday party and have a prize at the end. My go to prize for birthday parties are these chocolate bars. They’re delicious, fair trade, and wrapped in recyclable paper!
- Nerf gun war. This is a timeless game that definitely involves using items you already have. If you don’t have nerf guns, this can double as a gift for the birthday kid!
